Sunday brunch with Gladys, which prompted the most beaming, adoring smiles from Harper. She loves her so so much.

Sweet bedtime moments

We’ve had a chaotic week with snow days and routines turned upside down and training Elsabe. The kids have been flipping from sheer excitement and glee (“Snow!!”) to epic meltdown on a dime.

Then I turned around in Harper’s room the other night and found her singing like this to Roycie.  It felt like a magical moment.

Christmas Highlights

We have been spoiled with visits, gifts, food and laughs with so many of our nearest and dearest this holiday season. And we even managed to squeeze in a visit to the Griffins. We are full, happy and grateful. And we are embarking on the journey of convincing Harper and Roycie that gifts and treats don’t appear every day in real life :).

On to 2019!

Roycie

Kicking off 2019 with a renewed Vimeo subscription at long last now that I sat down and sorted it out, and the best Roycie video of all time:

2018 was full, hectic, and so much fun. In 2019 I hope to carve out some more time in the quiet right here. We’ll see how I do. We’ve learned to fully embrace the chaos!

December

First post of December.

We have gone on a whirlwind trip to South Africa and back again. Uncle Shaun died suddenly from a heart attack nearly three weeks ago and we were on a plane 36 hours later.

These little guys were all stars, all things considered, but the travel really did leave us flattened. It was an amazing and wonderful thing to be with family and the kids got some surprise sunshine and major cousin bonding out of the trip, but we will not be taking the JNB-IAD flight via Ghana again any time soon. It turns out a 17 hour flight with a three hour delay is JUST TOO LONG to be on an aircraft with these munchkins. Tears were shed in Dulles. They were mine.

We are jetlagged and wiped out but grateful and thankful for our people. And for Shaun and all of the amazing things he passed on to Darren (like his love for building, love for family, love for meats, and love for water polo).
